Valencia has many spanish food products as part of itīs mediterranean diet including paella (mainly seafood and rice) which makes for excellent gastronomy.
Valencia is a very prosperous region, with
a patchwork of orchards, rice paddies and vineyards. However some of
the farm land, has given way to industry since the 1960's, for Valencia
is a key manufacturing center for textiles, toys, and footwear.
The Valencia of today owes a great deal to
the early Moors, who occupied the region. They introduced the complex
irrigation systems that ensure Valencia's fertility and began the cultivation
of oranges, wine and rice that is still the mainstay of the region's
agriculture. Orange groves blanket the northern province of Castellón,
while flat rice fields dominate the province of Valencia close to the
coast.
